Mexican Army and State Police Seize 18kg of Poppy Seeds in Chihuahua

Mexican authorities have seized approximately 18 kilograms of poppy seeds in the Sierra Madre region of Chihuahua state. The operation was conducted by elements of the Mexican Army and the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) in the vicinity of the community of Cinco Llagas, within the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo.

During routine surveillance patrols, personnel discovered seven plastic bottles partially buried and concealed within the vegetation. An inspection of the area confirmed the bottles contained poppy seeds, weighing about 18 kilograms in total. Following established protocols, the seized material was secured.

Subsequently, the poppy seeds were destroyed through incineration by the Mexican Army. This action is intended to prevent the seeds from being used for illicit activities. The seizure is part of ongoing operations by the SSPE in coordination with the Armed Forces to curb drug production and trafficking in the mountainous regions of Chihuahua.

No arrests were reported in connection with this specific seizure. The operation underscores the continuous efforts by Mexican security forces to combat drug-related crime in the state.
