Mexican director David Pablos joins jury at Venice Film Festival's Horizontes section

Filmmaker David Pablos of Mexico has been selected to join the jury for the Horizontes section at the upcoming Venice Film Festival. This section is dedicated to showcasing new cinematic vanguard and is considered the second most important at the festival. Pablos's inclusion marks a return to Venice for him, as he won the Best Film award in the Horizontes section just last year for his film 'En el camino,' which explored homosexual themes.

Pablos will be joined on the international jury by American film distributor Peter Becker, Hong Kong director Elizabeth Lo, Italian actress Barbara Ronchi, and French filmmaker Valérie Donzelli, who will preside over the jury. The 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival is scheduled to commence on September 2 and will conclude ten days later with the announcement of the Golden Lion winner and other awards.

While the full list of competing films across various categories is still anticipated, the festival has already announced that Hollywood star George Clooney will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement this year. Additionally, a lineup of thirteen short films has been revealed for the Horizontes section, including 'Los Poderos' by Salim Jaller from Colombia and 'Una fortaleza' by Alba Gaviraghi from Chile.
