Mexican national wanted for car theft apprehended in San Diego and returned to Mexico

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) apprehended a Mexican national in San Diego who was wanted for auto theft in his home country. The individual was subsequently turned over to Mexican authorities, underscoring the ongoing cooperation between the two nations' law enforcement agencies.

The CBP's Brown Field station officers initially detained the man for deportation processing. During this procedure, he disclosed an outstanding arrest warrant in Baja California, Mexico. The San Diego Sector Foreign Operations Subdivision then coordinated with Mexico's Attorney General's Office (FGR) and the State Attorney General's Office, which confirmed the warrant for vehicle theft.

Under Mexican law, the crime of auto theft carries a potential prison sentence of five to 12 years. The CBP facilitated the transfer of the fugitive to Mexican custody on July 14 at the San Ysidro port of entry. This action ensures that the individual will face justice for the alleged crime.
