Mexican Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña fractures wrist during mountain hike

Mexican Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña announced he fractured his wrist after falling during a mountain hike in Tepoztlán, Morelos. The politician, known for his outspoken nature, shared details of the accident on social media platforms.

Noroña posted a photo of his arm in a cast on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "I went to the mountain, I fell, and I hurt myself. I'm just leaving @tu_imss. I broke my wrist, I'll have it in a cast for a month and a half." He later shared a TikTok video detailing the fall, which occurred on July 17.

In the video, Noroña described the hike as "complicated" and explained that he tripped on a rocky riverbed. He fell face-first, managing to brace himself with his hand, which also resulted in him hitting his ribs and chest. Initially, he thought he might have broken a rib due to the difficulty breathing.

He expressed gratitude to the staff at the IMSS General Zone No. 1 hospital in Cuernavaca, specifically mentioning the director, Citlalli, and traumatologist Estefania. Despite the injury, Noroña indicated he would resume his activities soon, though he acknowledged the inconvenience of sleeping with his arm elevated for the next six weeks. He also preemptively addressed potential criticism from political opponents, anticipating they might react negatively to his misfortune.
