Mexicanos Primero backs digital learning culture, backs AI and social media debate in schools

The civil organization Mexicanos Primero has endorsed the federal government's initiative to launch a national discussion on the influence of digital devices, social media, and artificial intelligence on children and adolescents. The group advocates for this debate to result in an evidence-based educational policy that strengthens the right to learn.

Mexicanos Primero believes the discussion, spearheaded by the Presidency and the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), presents an opportunity to develop a public policy that moves beyond temporary fixes and fosters a digital culture focused on learning. They note that digital transformation is profoundly altering how young people learn, interact, and participate in society.

While acknowledging the potential of digital technologies to expand access to knowledge, personalize learning, and support teachers, the organization also recognizes challenges related to cognitive development, socio-emotional well-being, school coexistence, and the full exercise of the right to learn. They stress that international bodies like UNESCO and UNICEF also call for states to ensure safe digital environments for children and promote shared responsibilities.
