Mexico and US Fans Gather in Ciudad Juárez to Honor Juan Gabriel on 10th Anniversary of Death

Ten years after his passing, fans from both Mexico and the United States gathered in the border city of Ciudad Juárez to honor the memory of Juan Gabriel, the beloved 'Divo de Juárez.' The attendees shared a conviction that the singer's music and enduring legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

Catalina Albardín, who traveled from Florida with her father, Ramón, described the experience of listening to Juan Gabriel's music as deeply emotional, fostering a stronger connection to Mexico and family. "Everything, everything for me is a great emotion to hear him. It's like feeling closer to Mexico, to your family, more connected with all the love," she said.

María del Socorro Núñez Domínguez, a resident of Ciudad Juárez, emphasized that a decade has passed, yet Juan Gabriel remains a vibrant presence in the hearts of his admirers. "For me, it represents that time flies, ten years without having him physically, but always in our hearts, in our minds, in our daily lives," she stated. She also highlighted the artist's significance to the border city, noting that he put it on the international map.

Conny Mendoza traveled from Mexico City to participate in the tributes, a tradition she upholds annually. "To continue honoring everything he left us and to continue thanking you, the people of Juárez, who receive us from everywhere with open arms. We are very happy to be here, truly. We try to be here every year to continue feeling him with us," Mendoza shared. For her, Juan Gabriel's songs evoke personal and family memories that will leave a lasting impact.

Juan Gabriel died on August 28, 2016, at the age of 66. His legacy is built on a vast body of work, including compositions for over 200 artists and sales exceeding 30 million records, solidifying his status as one of Mexico's most influential musicians. Ciudad Juárez played a pivotal role in his life; it was the city where he grew up, developed his musical talents, and launched his career, ultimately earning him the affectionate title 'Divo de Juárez.'
