Mexico arrests alias Palma, alleged member of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación

Authorities in Mexico's Guerrero state have arrested Reynier 'N', known by the alias Palma, who is identified as a suspected member of the powerful Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). The arrest is linked to the alleged murder of a taxi driver in the tourist port of Acapulco on June 16.

The Guerrero Attorney General's Office stated that the detained individual is believed to be connected to the CJNG, a cartel described as a primary source of violence in the region. The public transport driver, identified as Javier 'N', was reportedly killed with a firearm while on duty on the Costera Miguel Alemán avenue.

The operation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the State Attorney General's Office, the National Defense Secretariat, the National Guard, and naval and state police forces. This arrest occurs while Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum asserts that Acapulco has recovered economically from the 2023 Hurricane Otis, despite ongoing security challenges. Guerrero remains a focal point for organized crime, with numerous cartels operating in the state and a high concentration of homicides and extortion cases.
