Mexico City braces for hot weather followed by heavy rain and hail

Mexico City residents should prepare for a day of contrasting weather, starting with a warm, clear morning and transitioning into potentially severe afternoon thunderstorms.

The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) forecasts a high of 25 degrees Celsius with sunny skies for Sunday. However, this pleasant start will give way to increasing cloudiness in the afternoon.

Strong, localized showers are expected, accompanied by the risk of hail and electrical activity. Variable winds will blow between 10 and 25 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially reaching up to 45 km/h.

As evening approaches, temperatures will drop to around 17 degrees Celsius, with the early Monday morning hours expected to be cool, ranging between 14 and 15 degrees Celsius.

Authorities advise the public to stay alert for updates from the Multi-Risk Early Warning System. Meanwhile, monitoring of the Popocatépetl volcano indicates light emissions of water vapor with minimal ash, currently moving southeast and posing no immediate risk of ashfall in the capital.
