Mexico City extends electric scooter pilot program to August 31

Mexico City's Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) has extended the pilot program for electric scooters, known as SiTIS (Sustainable Individual Transport System), until August 31. The program, which involved shared electric scooters, was originally scheduled to conclude on August 10 after a 60-day trial period.

During the pilot phase, users completed 117,183 trips on the electric scooters. Semovi stated that the decision to extend the service stems from the results and analysis of the trial. This extension is intended to allow the secretariat to gather further information on user behavior and usage patterns.

In this way, the evaluation allows Semovi to have information on the usage patterns of SiTIS and establish a work route so that electric micromobility continues to develop in an orderly, safe manner and linked to the daily needs of users.

The goal of collecting this data is to establish a clear roadmap for the continued development of electric micromobility in the city. Semovi aims to ensure this development is orderly, safe, and aligned with the daily needs of users. The participating companies are Lime, Whoosh, and Jet, each operating up to 1,000 scooters within a designated operational area covering the Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, and Miguel Hidalgo mayoralties.

Upon expiration of the permit, the companies must remove all vehicles and other property from public roads and public spaces within a period not exceeding two business days and assume the related costs. In case of non-compliance, the Secretariat may take the necessary steps to remove and safeguard the units at the expense and cost of the companies, in accordance with applicable regulations.
