Mexico City Facilitates Talks for Building Collapse Reparations

Negotiations are underway in Mexico City to reach a reparatory agreement in the case of a building collapse on San Antonio Abad street, which resulted in three fatalities. The Fiscalía General de Justicia (FGJ) of Mexico City confirmed that discussions are being held through its Mediation Unit between the victims and the accused.

Bertha Alcalde Luján, head of the FGJ, stated that if an agreement is not reached, the case will proceed to judicialization. The investigation is being conducted for culpable injury and homicide, offenses that permit reparatory agreements based on the parties' decisions. Alcalde Luján assured that the FGJ possesses sufficient evidence to proceed with charges and that the investigation is significantly advanced.

Currently, the identified criminal responsibility lies with the company responsible for the demolition of the building, which collapsed on March 9. The FGJ has not yet identified any responsibility on the part of authorities, but investigations in this regard are ongoing. The building, located at San Antonio Abad 124, was undergoing demolition when it collapsed, also leaving one person injured.
