Mexico City invests 256 million pesos in flood mitigation projects for Tláhuac

Mexico City's government is undertaking a significant infrastructure investment to combat recurrent flooding in the San José area of Tláhuac. Governor Clara Brugada announced that over 256 million pesos will be allocated to nine drainage projects, with all expected to be completed by October.

These initiatives are crucial for an area that has repeatedly suffered from severe inundations, impacting hundreds of families. The Canal del Riachuelo Serpentino has been a primary source of these overflows. Among the critical works underway is the construction of a kilometer-long stone retaining wall, designed to protect the San José neighborhood from the canal's surges.

Additionally, the government is rehabilitating the San José pumping station and constructing the new Guadalupe Trigo pumping plant, which is currently 42% complete. Dredging of the local water body is also part of the plan. These measures aim to provide lasting relief to residents who have endured significant hardship due to the annual heavy rains.

In these nine works, 256 million pesos have been allocated, which will benefit the entire population of this area. Last year, these neighborhoods and their inhabitants suffered repeated floods, not just one or 10 people, but 300 families faced the overflow of the Canal del Riachuelo Serpentino.
