Mexico City Morena Deputies Meet Dispossession Victims, Pledge Follow-Up

Morena deputies in Mexico City have met with dozens of residents affected by property dispossession to address their concerns. Xóchitl Bravo, the party's coordinator, pledged to follow up on each case, assuring victims of ongoing support. The deputies identified that investigations into dispossession are primarily concentrated in the Benito Juárez and Cuauhtémoc mayoralties, areas that will receive special attention.

Legislation aimed at combating dispossession has been strengthened. A reform to the penal code expands the ways the crime can be committed, increases penalties, and establishes aggravating factors for cases involving vulnerable individuals or false documentation. It also recognizes occupying or impeding the use of a property after a judicial order as a continuous offense.

The civil code redefines good-faith possession, presuming bad faith in simulated acts or fraudulent titles, and invalidates legal acts that conceal dispossession through contractual simulation. Furthermore, the registry law introduces a control mechanism to prevent the registration of false deeds, while the notary law holds notaries accountable for negligence or bad faith in authenticating acts leading to dispossession.
