PAN demands declassification of Pemex audits, accuses government of cover-up

Deputies from Mexico's National Action Party (PAN) have urged President Claudia Sheinbaum to declassify financial reviews and audits of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) conducted during Víctor Rodríguez Padilla's management. The PAN deputies dismissed the government's argument that the information constitutes strategic data, calling it "vague." This demand follows reports that Padilla classified internal audit findings as "confidential" for three years shortly before his resignation. PAN legislator Paulina Rubio stated that this move is intended to shield "corrupt individuals" and criticized it as characteristic of the current administration. She accused President Sheinbaum of showing "unconditional support" for those accused of harming women, referencing allegations made by Padilla's wife. PAN federal deputy Ernesto Sánchez, a member of the Transparency and Anti-Corruption Commission, warned that withholding this information is another attempt to shield Pemex's corruption from public scrutiny. He asserted that access to information is a constitutional right, and such secrecy can only be justified exceptionally, not as a tool to hide irregularities or protect political allies. PAN federal deputy and spokesperson Federico Döring claimed that with support from Energy Secretary Luz Elena González and President Sheinbaum, Padilla's alleged wrongdoings at Pemex will remain hidden, including his responsibility for oil spills and misleading statements.
