Mexico dismantles three laboratories and seizes 7.8 tonnes of chemicals in Guerrero

Mexican authorities dismantled three clandestine laboratories used to produce methamphetamine in Guerrero and seized more than 7.8 tonnes and approximately 25,800 liters of chemicals and precursors, the Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat said.

The laboratories were found in the municipalities of Zirándaro de los Chávez and Coahuayutla de José María Izazaga. Among the seized materials were more than 260 200-liter drums, 11 500-liter containers, nine reactors, more than 60 gas tanks, 150 sacks of caustic soda, and 663 kilograms of ammonium chloride.

At two sites in Zirándaro, agents found industrial reactors, condensers, distillers, burners, a mixer, gas tanks, and containers holding chemical substances. Authorities also reported approximately 2.4 tonnes of a chemical substance, 663 kilograms of ammonium chloride, and 3.75 tonnes of caustic soda.

At the Coahuayutla site, officers found 30 200-liter drums, 100 50-liter containers, 40 jugs, a 1,000-liter gas tank, and other equipment. The authorities said the materials and objects were disabled in line with established protocols and that prosecutors were notified so the investigation could continue. The statement did not specify whether any arrests were made.

Personnel from the Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat, the Defense Ministry, and the National Guard took part in the operation.
