Mexico's INE Stabilizes Voter ID Card Production, Begins Reducing Delivery Times

Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) announced it has successfully stabilized the production of its new voter identification card. This stabilization allows for a gradual reduction in delivery times, moving towards the standard commitment of six to nine natural days. The institute has already requested production for over 2.4 million cards, with more than 2 million already distributed to citizen attention modules nationwide. The INE stated that production now meets the needs of recent applications, ensuring citizens receive their cards more quickly without compromising quality or security. The transition to a new production contract, which began on June 1, 2026, initially faced a backlog of over 423,000 cards due to high demand. Production started gradually to ensure all technical specifications and security features of the new card model were met. The INE emphasized that this phased approach allowed for thorough verification of each production stage. While delivery times were temporarily extended during this initial period, the institute is now working to return to its usual delivery schedule.
