Mexico State Seizes Over 2,700 Slot Machines, 5 Million Pesos in Operation

The State of Mexico's Attorney General's Office has seized more than 2,700 slot machines and 5 million pesos in cash during "Operation Dos de Bastos." The operation, launched on July 13, was a response to the homicide of a 20-year-old man in an establishment featuring the machines in Otzolotepec on July 12.

In the week following the operation's launch, the Attorney General's Office reported the suspension of 300 businesses associated with slot machines and the inspection of 100 commercial establishments. Five individuals were arrested in connection with the operation.

The confiscated cash included coins and bills totaling 5 million pesos. The economic activity linked to these businesses reportedly generated a flow of approximately 50 million pesos. Inspections covered various commercial plazas, including Plaza Aragón, Plaza Santín in Toluca, Plaza Lago in Tlalnepantla, and others in Cuautitlán Izcalli.

The Attorney General's Office clarified that its intervention focused on common-jurisdiction crimes such as harboring a fugitive, extortion, and money laundering, noting that the operation of slot machines falls under federal jurisdiction. The investigation aims to address illicit financial activities and related offenses.
