Mexico's UNAM releases exam results after AI irregularities

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has published the results of its in-person entrance examination for the 2026-2027 academic year, following issues with the initial online test. The university will admit 49,074 new students, with 28,151 admitted through a regulated process and 20,923 through selection exams.

The results are now available on the Directorate General of School Affairs website. Selected students are advised to check their respective faculty or school pages for further admission procedures and welcome activities. The new semester is set to begin on August 31, 2026.

This development comes after UNAM detected significant irregularities in its first fully online admission process, including suspected use of artificial intelligence (AI) and unusual results. In response, the university organized a repeat in-person exam for approximately 38,000 applicants between August 12 and 19.

Furthermore, a control judge has initiated an investigation into fraud against two men suspected of fraudulent participation in the online UNAM entrance exam. The Mexico City Prosecutor's Office stated on August 25 that the men were arrested for allegedly charging applicants to take the exam on their behalf. This action is part of the ongoing investigation into AI use and other anomalies during the controversial online test.
