Mexico says 42.8 million people will receive social assistance in 2026

Mexico’s government says 42.8 million people will receive a pension or participate in a social program during 2026, according to Welfare Secretary Leticia Ramírez Amaya.

The largest program is the pension for older adults, which reaches 13.7 million people. Beneficiaries receive 6,400 pesos every two months. Ramírez said the current payment cycle began on Sept. 1 and will continue through Sept. 25 according to the first letters of recipients’ surnames.

The government also provides 3,300 pesos every two months to 2 million people with disabilities. The Working Mothers program covers 300,000 children, who receive 1,650 pesos every two months. The Women’s Welfare Pension has enrolled 2.8 million women aged 60 to 64, each receiving 3,100 pesos every two months. “And in just two years, almost 3 million women are already part of this program,” Ramírez said.

23 million home visits

She added that the Salud Casa por Casa program has 20,000 professionals who have conducted “23 million home visits.” The government plans to open 6,567 Welfare Pharmacies, while more than 12,000 new primary-care clinics are scheduled to open from January 2027.

Ramírez also reported 3.8 million registrations for the universal health service card. “Today, almost 4 million older adults and people with disabilities are registered, so that from January 2027 they can access health services through IMSS, ISSSTE and IMSS Bienestar, regardless of their eligibility status,” she said.
