Mexico seizes 81 long guns, over 274,000 rounds in Sonora operation

An extensive arsenal, comprising 81 long firearms, four of which were machine guns, along with 274,800 rounds of ammunition, was seized by federal, state, and municipal authorities in the border municipality of San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora. The significant bust occurred during security patrols and a court-authorized search, according to officials from the State Security Board.

During the operation, authorities also secured a property and a Jeep Grand Cherokee model 2025 that had been reported stolen. Additionally, 128 firearm magazines were confiscated. As of the report, no arrests have been made in connection with the operation. The seized weapons, vehicle, and property have been handed over to the Federal Public Ministry, which will continue investigations to determine the origin of the arms and their potential links to organized crime activities in the region.

Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño commended the collaborative efforts between the Mexican Army, National Guard, Attorney General's Office, Secretariat of the Navy, Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection, the Unified Police Command of San Luis Río Colorado, and the State Public Security Police. He emphasized that the coordination among all three levels of government will persist to enhance security measures and combat criminal groups operating in the border area.
