Authorities Search for Jaguar Spotted in Campeche City Tree

Federal and state authorities have initiated a search operation for a jaguar reportedly sighted in a tree within the Álamos neighborhood, located north of Campeche city. The unusual appearance of the large feline has generated surprise and concern among local residents.

Agencies such as Profepa (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) and Semarnat (Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources), along with state Civil Protection, are coordinating efforts to locate the animal. The jaguar was seen perched high in a tree, an image that has circulated on social media, prompting discussions about its authenticity.

While the search is ongoing and has not yet yielded results, officials are expected to release a statement soon. Wildlife specialists suggest that such sightings in urban areas can occur when biological corridors, used by animals like jaguars, border developed zones. It is possible this jaguar strayed into the populated area due to proximity with its natural habitat.
