Mexico to Double High School Places to 400,000 During Sheinbaum's Term

President Claudia Sheinbaum has pledged to significantly expand access to secondary education across Mexico, aiming to double the number of available places to 400,000 during her six-year term. This initiative addresses the high demand for high school education, as many young people struggle to find nearby schools after completing their basic education.

Young people need to be in school, which is why we are building many high schools. Today there are 200,000 more places in the country and very soon we will announce, because high schools have had so much demand, that we are going to at least double the goal. There will be at least 400,000 places that we will develop during the six-year term for higher secondary education throughout the country.

She elaborated that the initial goal of 200,000 new places this year would be at least doubled due to the overwhelming demand. The announcement came during the inauguration of the No. 330 Agricultural Technical Baccalaureate Center (CBTA) in Texcoco, State of Mexico.

The expansion is part of a comprehensive plan for the eastern zone of the State of Mexico, which includes 11 municipalities. This plan also involves constructing a high school and a Rosario Castellanos or Benito Juárez University in each municipality, alongside improvements to water and drainage systems. Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of providing dignity to the residents of the State of Mexico, praising its governor, Delfina Gómez.

Sheinbaum also highlighted other infrastructure projects, including the supervision of a water treatment plant for the Guadalupe Lake and efforts to improve services in the eastern Valley of Mexico. These efforts aim to address the growing needs of approximately 10 million inhabitants in the region, focusing on repaving streets, ensuring access to drinking water, and enhancing education and health services.

That is on one hand, now we are here visiting and inaugurating this high school that has an agricultural orientation, and it is also part of the integral plan for the eastern zone of the Valley of Mexico. There are 10 municipalities in the State of Mexico that together have around 10 million inhabitants, growing around Mexico City and its growth caused insufficient services, transportation, education, and health to arrive. And we decided, together with teacher Delfina, to get to work and serve these 10 million inhabitants of the eastern zone. How? By repaving streets, improving access to drinking water, carrying out drainage and education works, health.
