Michael Maze becomes head coach for Sweden's men's table tennis team

Former Danish table tennis star Michael Maze is set to take on a new role as the head coach for the Swedish men's national table tennis team. The Swedish Table Tennis Association announced the appointment on its website, marking a significant move for the sport in the country.

Maze's transition into coaching will begin with a collaborative period, working alongside the current head coach, Marcus Sjöberg. He is expected to officially assume the coaching responsibilities on his own starting in November. The association noted that Maze was a highly interesting candidate they had considered for some time.

Emma Persson, the national team manager for the Swedish association, highlighted the desire to find a coach with international experience who could connect with the challenges faced by both current and aspiring Swedish players. Maze, who concluded his active playing career in 2024 after more than 25 years at the elite level, brings a wealth of experience, including European Championship titles and medals from the Olympic and World Championships.

Reflecting on his new position, Maze stated, "I am incredibly proud and happy to become the new head coach for the Swedish men's national team." He added, "It is a great honor to have the opportunity to work with some of the world's best players and at the same time become part of a strong Swedish table tennis culture."
