Nicolai Højgaard Misses PGA Tour Season Finale After BMW Championship Performance

Danish golfer Nicolai Højgaard will not participate in the prestigious PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship, a feat that would have made him the first Dane to ever achieve this. His hopes were dashed after a challenging final round at the BMW Championship on Sunday.

Højgaard completed the fourth and final round one stroke over par. This performance was insufficient to climb into the top 30 of the PGA Tour's rankings, a requirement for qualifying for the Tour Championship. Before the week's tournament, he was ranked 33rd, needing to improve his standing to secure a spot.

The BMW Championship proved to be a mixed bag for the young Danish player. After being in last place following Friday's second round, a strong performance on Saturday saw him move away from the bottom of the leaderboard. However, Sunday's round included three bogeys, one double bogey, and four birdies, resulting in an even par for the entire tournament. As of the latest standings, this places him tied for 41st in the 50-player field.

Consequently, Højgaard misses out on the opportunity to compete for the substantial $40 million prize pool at the Tour Championship. The event brings together the season's top 30 players to battle for the ultimate title.
