Middle East Ironman 70.3 Team Championship Set for Oman in 2026

Oman is set to host the inaugural Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship for Teams in the Dhofar Governorate on October 24, 2026. The announcement came during a press conference held by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ironman Group and Middle East Global Events company.

This championship is a key component of the "Experience Oman Ironman 70.3 Dhofar 2026" race, which will also include individual competitions. The race format challenges participants through three distinct stages: a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer bicycle ride, and a 21.1-kilometer run. In the team format, members share the race stages before converging at the finish line, fostering a collaborative spirit.

Haitham bin Mohammed Al Ghassani, Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, highlighted the event's significance. He stated that launching the first Middle East-level Ironman 70.3 Championship for Teams marks a new milestone for the Sultanate of Oman, reinforcing its position as a global sports tourism destination. Al Ghassani emphasized that the event showcases the successful strategic partnership between the Ministry and the Ironman Group.

This initiative aligns with the Ministry's strategy to attract high-caliber international tourism events, supporting the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Talal bin Hamid Al Khasaibi, Director General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, added that hosting the event is a result of joint efforts to enhance the governorate's appeal as a year-round tourist destination. He noted that the championship provides a platform to showcase Dhofar's unique natural beauty, cultural heritage, and tourism experiences, extending beyond the athletic competition to stimulate demand for local hospitality and tourism services. Mohammed bin Khalfan Al Obaidani, CEO of Middle East International Events, further underscored the opportunity for public and private entities to form teams and gain international sports expertise.
