Midsummer gardening and mushroom season previewed on Delfi diena

The Lithuanian program "Delfi diena" is set to explore a range of seasonal and scientific topics, offering viewers practical advice and intriguing insights.

The first segment focuses on midsummer gardening. Agronomist and gardener Tautvydas Gurskus will share essential tasks for the current season, addressing everything from managing pests to planning for autumn. As summer progresses, many gardeners are enjoying their first harvests while others are still planting or battling garden invaders. Gurskus's expertise will guide viewers on optimal plant care and early preparations for the fall.

Additionally, the program will delve into Lithuania's burgeoning mushroom season. Mycologist and Doctor of Biomedical Sciences Jurga Motiejūnaitė will discuss the types of mushrooms currently appearing, what to expect as autumn approaches, and crucial safety tips for identification and collection. The segment aims to ensure that mushroom foraging remains a pleasurable and safe activity.

Finally, "Delfi diena" will present findings from a significant bioarchaeological research project conducted by Vilnius University. Professor Rimantas Jankauskas will discuss how human bones and teeth can reveal details about life centuries ago, even in the absence of written records. The study, one of the largest of its kind in Lithuania, analyzed over 2,200 remains from the 13th to 18th centuries, reconstructing the diet, health, diseases, social status, and migration patterns of Vilnius inhabitants during that period.
