Migrant worker found dead in bushes in Yeoju after going to rest

A 30-year-old migrant worker in Yeoju, South Korea, was found dead in bushes near a farm where she had been working. The woman, identified only as Ms. G, had reportedly told her employer she felt unwell and went to rest on August 7. She did not return, prompting a missing person report from the farm owner.

Police and firefighters launched a search and found Ms. G deceased approximately 28 hours after she was last seen. Ms. G had arrived in South Korea just five days before her death on a seasonal worker visa and had begun working on the farm on August 6. Authorities are planning an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death, investigating possibilities such as pre-existing medical conditions or heatstroke.

Notably, a severe heatwave warning, the highest level, was in effect for the western part of Yeoju, including the area where Ms. G disappeared, on the afternoon of August 7. This detail raises concerns about whether heat-related illness contributed to her death, especially given her recent arrival and the demanding nature of farm work during extreme temperatures.
