Miguel Hidalgo operates Mexico City's largest community soup kitchen network

The Miguel Hidalgo delegation boasts the largest network of community soup kitchens in Mexico City, according to Mayor Mauricio Tabe. He inaugurated the 55th "Manos a la Olla" (Hands to the Pot) kitchen, marking an expansion of the program's reach.

With this latest addition, the delegation now provides over 4,000 complete, three-course meals daily, including an appetizer, main dish, dessert, and water, to residents in 85% of its popular neighborhoods. This expansion aims to alleviate the burden of household chores and foster greater equality between men and women, a core objective of Tabe's "Primero las Mujeres" (Women First) strategy.

Tabe highlighted that the program's consistent growth since the administration's inception has allowed thousands of women to dedicate less time to cooking. This frees them to pursue personal, educational, or professional development, while also easing the financial strain on families.

"The difference in our kitchens is the flavor, it's the attention, it's the warmth. This kitchen program is not done by the government alone; we do it hand-in-hand with the community, and that makes the difference, because it is with love and attention to our neighbors," Tabe stated during the inauguration.
