Milan Zupančič has died

Milan Zupančič, a legendary figure in Slovenian and Yugoslav handball, has died at the age of 95. Born in Subotica on February 1, 1931, Zupančič left an indelible mark on the sport through his extensive leadership roles.

His career highlights include serving as the general director of Aero, a sponsor of the RK Celje club, from 1978 to 1990. During this period, he was president of RK Celje for nine years (1978-1987) and also served as president of the Yugoslav Handball Federation from 1984 to 1986, a period when the national team achieved world championship success in 1986.

Following Slovenia's independence, Zupančič became the first elected president of the Slovenian Handball Federation (1992-1996). He also held positions as the long-time chairman of the supervisory board of the Slovenian Handball Federation and was a member of the management board of RK Celje Pivovarna Laško for ten years (1996-2006), remaining on its supervisory board until 2018.

Zupančič's dedication and contributions were widely recognized. He received numerous awards for his work in handball and was made an honorary member of the Slovenian Handball Federation and RK Celje Pivovarna Laško. In 2022, he was also honored as an honorary citizen of the City of Celje.
