Milei government appoints new presidential spokesperson amid Adorni crisis

Argentina's government has appointed a new presidential spokesperson, Adrián Ravier, amidst a judicial crisis surrounding the outgoing spokesperson and current chief of ministers, Manuel Adorni. Adorni himself announced the appointment via his X account, wishing Ravier success in his new role.

The move comes as Adorni faces allegations of illicit enrichment. He admitted last week to having concealed $500,000 in cryptocurrency investments made between 2014 and 2018 in his sworn statements. This admission contradicts his earlier statements to Congress in April, where he asserted that no concealment of his assets had occurred. The federal justice system is investigating these claims, alongside allegations concerning the purchase and renovation of properties worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This scandal has generated significant pressure on Adorni, who has been a close confidant of President Javier Milei. Each week seems to bring a new development in the case, including a recent alleged receipt for a $5,600 purchase from a linen store. Adorni, 46, initially served as presidential spokesperson starting in 2023 before transitioning to the chief of staff position last November. He will continue in his role as chief of staff.
