Milei offers Argentina's security experience to new Colombian government

Argentine President Javier Milei announced on Friday that his government is ready to share its security expertise with Colombia. Milei attended the inauguration of Abelardo de la Espriella as the new president of the Andean nation.

"We will be able to contribute our experience. In fact, our current Minister of Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, has lived and worked in Colombia for many years, so we will be able to collaborate strongly," Milei told reporters in Cali. He specifically mentioned Argentina's experience in "combating drug trafficking in the province of Santa Fe, in Rosario."

The Argentine leader also endorsed Colombia's decision to join the "Americas' Shield" initiative, a plan conceived by former U.S. President Donald Trump to coordinate actions against organized crime. Milei believes this integration aligns strategically with the region, contributing to its security.

Reflecting on bilateral relations, Milei expressed satisfaction with the current rapport between Argentina and Colombia, noting that strong alignment between leaders can facilitate reforms beneficial to both nations. He contrasted this with the previous administration, stating that his predecessor, Gustavo Petro, "is part of Colombia's worst history."
