Military hospital provides free health checks to thousands of students in Can Tho

Thousands of high school students in Can Tho are receiving free health checks at Military Hospital 121, where doctors are screening for conditions that commonly affect school-age children.

Under a cooperation plan with Bùi Hữu Nghĩa High School, hospital staff will examine 1,608 students over two days. The checks include physical assessments and examinations of the eyes, ears, nose and throat, dental and facial health, and internal medicine. Students will also receive vaccine advice and a health classification.

The hospital is adding more detailed screening for eyesight and spinal conditions. Doctors said they found several students with curved spines during the examinations. The students were referred for X-rays at the hospital and advised to begin treatment early.

Doctors identified short-sightedness and spinal curvature linked to poor sitting posture as the main health problems among the students. The examinations allow families to receive early advice and seek timely care.

Colonel and specialist level-two doctor Trần Mạnh Hùng, the hospital’s director, said Military Hospital 121 has also provided free health checks to thousands of residents in communes and wards of Can Tho and Vĩnh Long. The hospital previously examined more than 1,700 students at Châu Văn Liêm High School. It plans to screen students at Nguyễn Việt Hồng and Phan Ngọc Hiển high schools, as well as about 5,000 lower-secondary students in Ninh Kiều Ward.
