Milito’s Guadalajara Thrash San Luis in Apertura’s Seventh Round

Guadalajara produced a convincing 3-0 win over San Luis on Saturday in the seventh round of Mexico’s Apertura tournament, strengthening its position near the top of the table under Argentine coach Gabriel Milito.

Chivas took the lead in the sixth minute after Santiago Sandoval struck the post with a left-footed shot. The ball rebounded off goalkeeper Andrés Sánchez and went into his own net. Four minutes later, San Luis gave the visitors another opening with a poor buildup, and Ricardo Marín finished with his left foot to make it 2-0.

San Luis pushed forward after halftime but could not create enough danger. Guadalajara completed the scoring in the 80th minute, when Richard Ledezma carried the ball down the right, entered the penalty area and fired past Sánchez.

The result lifted Guadalajara into second place with 14 points. San Luis stayed 15th on six points. Four other matches from the round were postponed because of the Leagues Cup. Pumas UNAM will play León on Sept. 10, Puebla will meet Toluca on Sept. 15, América will face Tijuana on Oct. 25, and Querétaro will play Monterrey on Nov. 14.
