Million-Dollar Ferris Wheel Structures Abandoned at Cerro Perõ

Million-dollar structures intended for a "Chicago Wheel" Ferris wheel project at Cerro Perõ in Paraguay are reportedly abandoned and left exposed to the elements, raising concerns about their deterioration and the project's future.

The "Chicago Wheel" or "Noria" project, valued at G. 1.437 billion, is being financed through municipal royalties expected to continue until November 2026. The contract was awarded via an exceptional procedure to AGT Constructora, represented by Armín González. This award also encompassed complementary works, such as the construction of a staircase and a pier on the artificial lagoon at the summit of the hill.

However, the cabins designated for the Ferris wheel, along with panoramic viewpoints and giant hammocks, remain uninstalled. The metallic structures and an air-conditioned cabin are currently situated on the hilltop, unprotected from weather conditions, leading to fears of corrosion. Despite the closure of access to Cerro Perõ for two months starting June 24 for installation work, progress appears minimal.

Only two workers were observed manually digging to prepare the foundation for the structure, with no visible professional supervision or heavy machinery. This lack of visible advancement has prompted local council member Gabriel Ramírez to request a detailed report from the municipal mayor, Marcelo Simbrón. Ramírez seeks information on permits, approvals, and the reasons behind the project's delays and the current state of abandonment.
