Millonarios dismiss coach 24 hours before clásico against Santa Fe

Millonarios made a coaching change on the eve of one of Colombian football’s biggest fixtures. The Bogotá club announced that Argentine Fabián Bustos will not continue as its professional-team manager, just 24 hours before the clásico against Independiente Santa Fe.

The decision ends Bustos’ seven-month spell in charge. Millonarios thanked Bustos and his coaching staff for their “professionalism, effort, dedication and human quality,” but gave no reason for the dismissal.

Bustos, 57, took over in February with the task of leading one of Colombia’s most important clubs. He managed 32 matches, winning 16, drawing nine and losing seven.

The Argentine has extensive experience in South American football, particularly in Ecuador, where he coached Barcelona and Deportivo Quito. Millonarios said it will now begin the process of appointing his replacement. The club has not said who will take charge temporarily while that process continues.
