Millonarios salvage draw against Deportivo Pereira in Alberto Gamero’s return

Millonarios began Alberto Gamero’s second spell in charge with a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Pereira, salvaging a point after falling behind in the ninth round of Colombia’s league.

Pereira took the lead in the 66th minute when Jordy Monroy finished a team move. Millonarios had struggled defensively, and the home side capitalized on those problems.

The response came almost immediately. Three minutes later, Leonardo Castro scored from inside the area to set the final score. Castro had earlier put the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Pereira also came close in the first half, hitting the crossbar.

The result marked Gamero’s return after he left Millonarios on December 31, 2024. He was brought back following the departure of Argentine coach Fabián Bustos, with the task of steering the Bogotá club toward the qualifying positions.

Pereira, coached by Arturo Reyes, could not hold its advantage despite competing strongly against one of Colombian football’s traditional clubs. The draw left both sides needing improved results in the coming rounds.
