Mimika Transportation Agency Installs Traffic Control Systems at 9 Intersections

The Mimika Transportation Agency in Papua Tengah, Indonesia, has installed the Area Traffic Control System (ATCS) at nine traffic light intersections in Timika City. This advanced system is equipped with surveillance cameras, enabling real-time monitoring of traffic conditions and the recording of incidents like accidents.

Mikael Orun, head of the Land Transportation Division for the Mimika Transportation Agency, explained that the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are a core component of the ATCS. These cameras help monitor traffic flow at intersections and provide crucial data for law enforcement. "The ATCS has been very helpful so far; collision accidents are monitored, and police often coordinate with us to request this data," Mikael stated.

The nine intersections where ATCS has been installed include the Timika Mall intersection, the intersection of Jalan Hasanudin and Jalan Budi Utomo, and along Jalan Merah WR Supratman. Additional installations are located in front of the KPPN Timika Office on Jalan Cenderawasih SP 2, at the junction of Jalan Cenderawasih and Jalan Budi Utomo, and in front of the Tiga Raja Cathedral Church on Jalan Yos Sudarso. The system is also operational in front of the Old POM Office Kwamki Baru, in front of Bank Papua on Jalan Yos Sudarso, and at the intersection of Jalan Pendidikan and Jalan Bougenville.

Currently, Timika City has traffic lights at only these nine locations, with no plans for new installations without thorough technical studies. These studies involve analyzing daily traffic volume and vehicle movement patterns. In addition to the ATCS, the Mimika Communication and Informatics Office has installed 51 CCTV units throughout the city and its outskirts to enhance public safety and surveillance.
