Minister: University must evaluate Prime Minister's dissertation

Lithuanian Education Minister Raminta Popovienė has stated that the university must take the lead in evaluating Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius's dissertation, following public questions about its authenticity. Popovienė stressed the importance of using specialized software to check all academic works for plagiarism.

The ISM University has officially received an inquiry concerning potential academic misconduct related to the Prime Minister's dissertation. The university has pledged to investigate the matter according to its established procedures. Prime Minister Sinkevičius maintains that he authored the dissertation himself, with a simplified version reportedly prepared using artificial intelligence.

All works must be checked with special programs. They check if the work has not been copied from other sources.

Popovienė also called for a broader discussion on the quality of university education in Lithuania. The situation highlights ongoing scrutiny of academic integrity within the country's higher education system.
