Ministries and agencies line up to seek bigger 2027 budgets

A number of Indonesian ministries and state agencies are asking parliament for more money for 2027, seeking additions on top of budget ceilings already set.

Parliamentary commissions held meetings with their working partners from Monday, Aug. 31, through Tuesday, Sept. 1. Some sessions were open, while others took place behind closed doors. The requests emerged during discussions of each institution’s work plan and budget.

The largest proposal listed was from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, which has a budget ceiling of Rp61.10 trillion and requested an additional Rp157.76 trillion. The National Police, with a ceiling of Rp139.19 trillion, sought another Rp66 trillion. The Attorney General’s Office requested Rp22.1 trillion on top of its Rp21.5 trillion allocation, while the Ministry of State Secretariat asked for an additional Rp6.6 trillion against a Rp2.6 trillion ceiling.

Other requests included Rp7.9 trillion from the Supreme Court, Rp772.74 billion from the Election Supervisory Agency, Rp774.3 billion from the Corruption Eradication Commission and Rp5.05 trillion from the National Narcotics Agency. The General Elections Commission sought Rp78.3 billion in additional funds.

The Forestry Ministry requested Rp4.68 trillion beyond its Rp8.69 trillion ceiling. Basarnas, Indonesia’s search and rescue agency, sought Rp2.16 trillion on top of Rp1.56 trillion. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency said it needed Rp4.64 trillion against an allocation of Rp2.52 trillion, leaving a Rp2.12 trillion shortfall.
