Prabowo heads to Russia for 11th Eastern Economic Forum

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto departed Jakarta for Vladivostok on September 1 to attend Russia’s 11th Eastern Economic Forum as guest of honor at President Vladimir Putin’s invitation.

The presidential aircraft left Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base at 11:20 p.m. Eastern Indonesia Time after Prabowo held a limited cabinet meeting at his residence in Hambalang. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya joined the delegation.

The four-day forum runs from September 1 to 4 at Far Eastern Federal University. It focuses on expanding economic ties across the Asia-Pacific. Teddy said Putin’s invitation reflected close Indonesia-Russia relations built through direct leader-to-leader diplomacy.

“This is a reflection of the close relations between Indonesia and Russia built through direct leader-to-leader diplomacy,” Teddy said.

He said Russia regards Indonesia as a strategic Asia-Pacific partner because of its influence in ASEAN, the Global South and the broader Islamic world. The visit marks the second time Prabowo has attended an international economic forum in Russia as a guest of honor, following his participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum last year.

Prabowo is scheduled to meet Putin for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, energy and other strategic sectors. Teddy said the visit follows Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy and is intended to produce direct national and economic benefits.
