Minivan Plunges into Rímac River in Peru, Injuring Six

A minivan carrying passengers from Peru's central highlands to Lima veered off the Carretera Central and plunged into the Rímac River in Chicla, Huarochirí province, on Saturday afternoon. The accident, which occurred at kilometer 97+900, resulted in six injuries and considerable damage to the vehicle.

Among the injured were Josué Milton Pauyac Huaraca, Rosa Dona Quincha, Kevin Palomino Pauyac, Héctor Pauyac Huallas, Jhonatan Ignacio Curaca, and a 14-year-old identified only as T.P.H. The driver sustained a hand injury, while other passengers suffered contusions, primarily to their legs and hands. All were medically evaluated following the incident.

Police from the Desprcar PNP Chicla unit arrived at the scene to attend to the emergency and initiate investigations. The driver has been taken to the local police station to assist in determining how the minivan left the highway and fell into the river. Authorities are working to clarify the circumstances of the crash, which has so far resulted in injuries but no fatalities.
