Missing diver sought for 4 days off Bozcaada

A search is underway for Uğur Savaş, 46, who disappeared four days ago while spearfishing off the coast of Bozcaada, an island in Turkey's Çanakkale province.

Savaş, who was visiting the island with his family from Bursa, went diving for spearfishing with a friend on August 12 around 5:30 a.m. near Sulubahçe. He entered the water but did not resurface. His friend alerted the emergency services at 11:42 a.m. the same day.

Following the report, two Coast Guard boats and a dive team were dispatched to the area. A Coast Guard aircraft from Izmir joined the search efforts from the air. To enhance underwater search capabilities, a side-scan sonar device was transported from Çanakkale to Bozcaada.

The Çanakkale Governorship confirmed that the search operations for Savaş are continuing into their fourth day. The operation is coordinated by the West Marmara Group Command of the Coast Guard and involves personnel from AFAD, gendarmerie, the Gendarmerie Commando Unit, and the Naval Police. These teams are conducting continuous searches.

Despite challenging sea conditions, including stormy weather, all personnel involved are demonstrating significant dedication and sacrifice in their efforts to find Savaş. The Governorship expressed gratitude to all staff and teams participating in the operation.
