Missing Ecuadorian Student Found Alive in Southern Mexico City

Jenny Kalindy Bolívar Guayacundo, an Ecuadorian doctoral student at Mexico’s Center for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology, has been found alive after 10 days missing.

Authorities located her in Tlalpan, in southern Mexico City, after she was last seen on August 26 in Coyoacán. Her disappearance was reported on September 1. The Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office, the city’s missing-persons search commission and the Secretariat of Citizen Security then began searching hospitals, shelters, refuges and other institutions.

Investigators also reviewed cameras from the capital’s C5 surveillance system and private video recordings linked to the areas under investigation. Officials conducted an inspection of the property where Bolívar Guayacundo had been staying in Coyoacán, collecting evidence for analysis with the participation of her family and civil groups.

On Sunday, people close to her received anonymous information about a possible sighting in Huipulco, in Tlalpan. Authorities verified the tip and coordinated the search that led to her being found alive. Officials said she was moving on her own, disoriented and in need of medical attention. The person who reported her disappearance and other relatives were present when she was located.

Bolívar Guayacundo received psychological care and was later taken for medical evaluation and treatment. The prosecutor’s office said her life was not at risk and that, at that point, there were no indications she had been the victim of a crime. Mexico’s Interior Ministry said the discovery resulted from interagency work under the National Immediate Search Alert.
