Mitote Film Festival debuts in Puebla, showcasing over 250 short films by young Mexican talent

Puebla, Mexico – The inaugural Mitote Film Festival has successfully concluded, bringing together over 250 short films created by young Mexican filmmakers. The festival, held on August 21 and 22 in San Andrés Cholula, Puebla, served as a vibrant platform for emerging talent in the independent cinema scene.

Designed by and for university students, the festival featured a diverse range of genres, including fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental film. The event aimed to foster a collaborative environment where new directors could showcase their work, exchange experiences, and build connections within the industry. From a total of more than 250 submissions received during the call for entries, a selection committee chose 52 projects to compete.

The festival's program included screenings and activities at the Teatro Cholula Ciudad Sagrada and the Auditorio Guillermo y Sofía Jenkins at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP). Attendees also benefited from a presentation by director Pierre Saint-Martin, who shared insights from his career, including his recent film "No nos moverán," which garnered multiple nominations at the 67th Ariel Awards.

Awards were presented to "No prendas la luz" for Best Animated Short Film, "La Pecera" for Best Fiction Short Film, "Fantasmas" for Best Experimental Short Film, and "Aquí nadie sabe quién fui" for Best Documentary Short Film. The selection of winning films was overseen by a committee of film and art specialists from various Puebla universities.
