Mitsubishi Pajero Mini to Return as Small Hybrid SUV, Targeting Suzuki Jimny Rivalry

Mitsubishi is set to bring back the Pajero Mini, a nameplate previously known for its compact off-road prowess. However, the revived model will pivot to a small passenger vehicle format, incorporating a 1.6-liter hybrid powertrain. This strategic shift aims to broaden its appeal and market reach, particularly in Southeast Asia.

The upcoming Pajero Mini will adopt a unibody construction, prioritizing everyday comfort and cost-efficiency over extreme off-roading. Despite this change, it is anticipated to retain respectable ground clearance and an all-wheel-drive system, providing a degree of capability for varied terrains. The vehicle's design is expected to feature a rugged aesthetic, potentially drawing inspiration from the Delica Mini with a horizontal grille and a skid plate-like lower bumper.

Under the hood, the Pajero Mini is slated to use the same 1.6-liter hybrid system found in the Xforce. This setup is projected to deliver 107 horsepower and 13.7 kg-m of torque from the engine, complemented by an electric motor producing 116 horsepower and 26 kg-m of torque. This hybrid configuration is also expected to achieve an impressive fuel efficiency of 24.4 km/liter. The new Pajero Mini is positioned to compete directly with rivals such as the Suzuki Jimny.
