Mixed Results for Slovenia at Skopje Table Tennis Tournament

Slovenian table tennis players Darko Jorgić and Deni Kožul experienced a mixed performance in the opening round of the WTT Contender tournament in Skopje.

Jorgić, ranked 15th globally and the second seed, secured his progression by defeating Belgium's Cedric Nuytinck in a challenging five-set match. After a dominant first set, Nuytinck rallied, taking the second and fourth sets. The deciding fifth set saw Nuytinck lead 5-3, but Jorgić responded fiercely, winning four consecutive points to clinch the victory.

Jorgić is now set to compete against South Korea's Park Ganghyeon in the quarterfinals. However, Kožul's run in the singles competition ended after a dramatic match against the tournament's sixth seed, Kanak Jha of the United States. Kožul won the first set and fought back to force a fifth, but ultimately lost 6-11.

Despite their singles exits, both Jorgić and Kožul found success as a pair. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles tournament, defeating the fourth-seeded Egyptian duo of Mohamed El Beiali and Youssef Abdulaziz in straight sets.
