MK Sukkot seen smashing monument in West Bank town while guarded by Israeli forces, footage shows

Video footage circulating on social media shows Israeli lawmaker Zvi Sukkot participating in the destruction of a monument in the West Bank village of Kafr Madama, near Nablus. The incident, which occurred on August 25, 2026, also shows Sukkot filming the act on his personal phone while another individual wielded a sledgehammer against the structure.

Israeli forces were present, guarding Sukkot and those with him. A military vehicle was seen blocking the street. A security source told Army Radio that while the visit to the Palestinian village was coordinated with the IDF, the act of smashing the monument was not.

The actions drew sharp criticism from other Israeli politicians. Yair Golan, leader of The Democrats, stated that Sukkot should be behind bars and that his actions were a reason the IDF was diverted to the West Bank. He called for the removal of "Kahanists and messianists" from power, warning they desire "eternal war."

MK Gilad Kariv also condemned Sukkot's actions and the IDF's involvement. He noted that the military had previously denied requests to escort him to Kusra due to a lack of forces, questioning why forces were available for Sukkot's controversial act. Kariv suggested Sukkot was eager to provoke conflict in the West Bank.
