Modi congratulates Meloni on becoming Italy’s longest-serving postwar prime minister

Giorgia Meloni’s government has set a postwar record in Italy, remaining in office for 1,413 consecutive days and surpassing the previous mark held by Silvio Berlusconi.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the milestone by congratulating Meloni on X. He described the record as a reflection of the Italian public’s trust in her leadership and praised her role in deepening ties between India and Italy.

Meloni, Italy’s first female prime minister, said the stability of her government came from voters who gave it their trust in 2022. "This stability exists thanks to the Italians who in 2022 gave us their trust. A trust that we have never considered a blank check and that we will never take for granted," she wrote.

She said her administration had focused on increasing employment, reducing unemployment, supporting families and businesses, strengthening security, managing public finances, and restoring Italy’s international standing. She planned to review the government’s work and its next priorities with members of her Fratelli d’Italia party in Bari.
