Mohamed Salah Nears Move to Turkish Club Trabzonspor After Leaving Liverpool

Mohamed Salah is on the verge of continuing his football career in Turkey's Super Lig with Trabzonspor, the club announced. Trabzonspor confirmed they are in discussions with the Egyptian forward to finalize his transfer. Reports suggest the 34-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with the team that finished third in the league last season.

Salah became a free agent this summer after concluding his nine-year tenure with Liverpool. During his time with the Reds, he played 442 matches and netted 257 goals, contributing to major trophies including the Premier League and Champions League. Before Trabzonspor, Salah was linked with moves to Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabian clubs. Even a Turkish rival, Besiktas, had reportedly submitted an offer.

Trabzonspor secured a spot in the UEFA Europa League by finishing third in the Super Lig. The club anticipates Salah's arrival will boost their competitiveness both domestically and in Europe. Salah recently participated in five matches for Egypt at the summer World Cup, helping them reach the Round of 16.

Salah's departure from Liverpool was announced in March, despite signing a two-year contract extension in April 2025. His performance declined in his final season, leading to him being benched multiple times. Salah expressed disappointment with the club's treatment, feeling he was "sacrificed" amid poor team results. His relationship with then-manager Arne Slot was reportedly strained, and Salah questioned his future at the club. Although he returned to the squad after the Africa Cup of Nations, he struggled to regain his consistent scoring form, a stark contrast to his previous four Premier League top-scorer titles.
