Mompox Library Reopens as Region's First Digital Hub After Restoration

In the historic heart of Mompox, Colombia, where colonial facades meet the Magdalena River, the Pedro Salcedo del Villar Public Library has been reborn. Officially reopened by the Governorate of Bolívar, this 18th-century cultural landmark now stands as the first public digital access center for the Mompox region, blending historical preservation with modern technological advancement.

The restoration project, part of the "Smart, Digital, and Connected Mompox" initiative, meticulously modernized the library's educational services without compromising its aesthetic integrity. As a national heritage site, the intervention required close collaboration and technical approval from the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Knowledge. Original wooden roofing was preserved, and walls were restored using traditional techniques, while interior design features custom artisanal shelving and energy-efficient LED lighting.
