Monks School of Martial Arts promotes young UAE Wushu talent

Young wushu athletes in the UAE marked their progress with new colored sashes after completing a demanding Kung Fu belt examination at the Monks School of Martial Arts in Ajman.

The examination took place at the school’s main premises in Al Rashidiya 3 and received support from the Arab Wushu Kungfu Union, AE. Union head Salem Hamdan Al Ameri attended alongside Secretary Don Tiran to encourage the athletes and local wushu organizations. Al Ameri is the International Wushu Federation’s first Emirati wushu judge and referee, while Tiran also serves as a wushu judge and referee.

Chief Examiner Sifu Shukkoor led the assessment with assistants Nithin and Sayeed. Students demonstrated traditional taolu, or forms, warming routines, striking combinations, self-defense tactics and controlled fight sparring. The examination also featured advanced hand techniques, dynamic kicking sequences and weapon-defense applications.

Candidates faced checks covering flexibility, mental focus, basic stances and discipline during sparring. Their results were reflected in the sashes awarded at the ceremony. Aron Savio Santhosh received a yellow sash. Fathima Nasha and Aadith Sajith advanced to green, while Aliya Ponmalathodi and Adil Ponmalathodi received blue sashes.

Mirfa Laraib, Salwa Noorain and Mariah Sajan Kurishinkal were awarded orange sashes, and Abdul Samad received a red sash. Aaron Baiju Thomas and Irine Maria Binish received brown sashes, marking their progression through the wushu ranking system. The Arab Wushu Kungfu Union, AE has continued supporting the growth of wushu in the UAE.
